‘A dealbreaker’: Spotify listeners complain after Mandarin song titles translated to English

SINGAPORE: Some Spotify users in Singapore possess threatened to quit the audio streaming company after noticing that will Mandarin or Cantopop song titles are actually translated to The english language or replaced with names in hanyu pinyin.  

H potify told CNA on Tuesday (Jul 19) that it is working on restoring the translated song game titles back to their native language over the following few days.

Numerous users had posted complaints in  a discussion board thread   that was started last Thursday under the local community section of Spotify’s web site.

One audience said most of the track titles are now “not recognisable”, and that the particular change was “a dealbreaker” despite as being a Spotify Premium user. The paid superior service allows customers to enjoy ad-free songs, among other functions.

Several audience agreed, saying they may switch to Apple Songs if Spotify will not undo the alter. Others lamented being unable to find the track they wanted with all the translated title, and that they wanted the music title to reveal its native language.  

A couple of users also left a comment on the lack of tönung in the English snel, and that it “undermines the value and importance of the Asian languages”.  

“It is a disrespect towards the composers of the music who put their particular efforts into giving the song an excellent title in their native language. Even worse, additionally it is a disrespect towards the Asian languages, ”  said an user which commented in the line.

“For example, Cantopop music are never pronounced in Mandarin pinyin. English/Mandarin pinyin can never communicate the same meaning. ”

It added that it is working on reverting these converted titles back to their own native languages, and that listeners should check for changes on Spotify over the next few days.
