GE2025: More than 1,600 suspected fake Facebook accounts posted 8,000 comments over 2 days on aborted Income-Allianz deal

Over 1,600 Facebook accounts that are viewed as fake have been found to have posted 8, 000 political and occasionally aggressive comments in posts by news outlets over the course of two days, according to most recent CNA investigations.

CNA reviewed 37 Facebook posts about two People’s Action Party ( PAP ) candidates between April 27 and April 29; 13 were posted by CNA, 13 by the Straits Times (ST ), and 11 by Mothership, an online media outlet.

The posts include Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, a member of the ruling party’s Punggol GRC team, and Ng Chee Meng, the ruling party’s Jalan Kayu SMC candidate, as well as the follow-up news articles about what the PAP and Workers ‘ Party ( WP ) had to say about the stalled agreement between Income Insurance and German insurer Allianz.

CNA looked at a full of 16 811 feedback in these articles, which totaled 37.

These opinions were shared by a full of 6, 338 distinct Instagram accounts. According to CNA, 1, 631 records were found to be likely to be fake. Around a third of the total number of users who commented on these comments made up this.

Due to the fact that a large portion of the data in these accounts was locked, the integrity of another 1, 428 accounts’ sincerity could not be confirmed. The final 3, 279 records are authentic.

The most recent research comes after CNA released its findings on April 24 and April 29 regarding dubious bot activity on Twitter. In these earlier information, CNA had looked at three app campaigns that precise PAP and WP candidates.
