
The Ministry of Law ( MinLaw ) announced on Friday ( Mar 28 ) that Mr. Nicky Tan, the CEO of nTan Corporate Advisory, will be appointed chairman of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore ( IPOS ) with effect from April 1.
He did succeed Dr. Stanley Lai, who has been in charge since April 2013.
Since April 2019, Mr. Tan has served as the IPOS board’s assistant chair. He is currently the CEO of nTan, a company that specializes in corporate finance and reconfiguration.
Additionally, he is a director of independent businesses like Singtel Innov8 and Singtel Optus.
Dr. Lai is a companion and head of intellectual property at Allen &, Gledhill, as well as co-head of security and data security.
He played a significant role in shaping IPOS’s change into” a world-leading organization that supports Singapore’s innovation economy,” according to MinLaw.
IPOS was named the nation’s most innovative Internet business in 2020 under his leadership, leading to the launch of significant regional initiatives like the Internet Hub Master Plan and the Singapore IP Strategy.
Dr. Lai was praised by MinLaw and IPOS for his “exemplary support and contributions.”
A number of new appointments and reappointments were made, in addition to the change in chairman.
The IPOS board will have two-year terms on which Mr. Kok Ping Soon, CEO of the Singapore Business Federation, Ms. Cindy Khoo, managing director of Enterprise Singapore, and Mr. Timothy Chin, senior director ( Americas ) at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
ViSenze’s CEO and co-founder, Mr. Oliver Tan, has been appointed a new member.
Mr. Tan Kong Hwee, who became IPOS’s CEO on March 1, will continue to serve on the panel until March 31. 2028. He succeeds Rena Lee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ‘ former chief executive, in a full-time capacity.
At the end of March, Mr. Ted Tan, Mr. Harsha Basnayake, and Mr. Tan Pei-En did all retire from the table. Etfs and MinLaw expressed gratitude for their assistance.
