JAKARTA: Earlier this month, Indonesian legal servant Kardiani ( not her real name ) found the source of drinking water and toilet paper at her office restricted.
The facilities now have no lights on, and use of the printing is strictly controlled.  ,
” Then at 4pm, the air heating may be turned off, and only one floor remains operational. Often, we even have to use the cargo elevator”, she said. She and her coworkers may just leave job at 6 or 7o’clock depending on the volume.
Kardiani told CNA,” We even have to ball in to get drinking water,” requesting privacy because she is not authorized to speak to the media.  ,
Kardiani, 30, works at the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, one of many departments affected by President Prabowo Subianto’s budget performance law issued on Jan 23.
The president ordered a 256 trillion rupiah ( US$ 15.76 billion ) budget cut for ministries and state agencies, along with a 50 trillion rupiah reduction in central government transfers to regional administrations.  ,
According to him, the cuts are intended to keep a full of 306.6 trillion ringgit in state money in the first of three phases. The second step of reduces amounts to about 8.5 per share of Indonesia’s 2025 resources proposed in August last year.
In the second phase, the state is gunning for another 308 trillion ringgit in saving, of which 58 trillion ringgit may be re-allocated among ministers and companies.
And by this time, the authorities plans to employ 200 trillion ringgit of the 300 trillion rupiah in payouts that state-owned organizations are expected to generate, Prabowo said.  ,
” In total, we will have 750 trillion rupiah”, Prabowo reportedly said last Saturday ( Feb 15 ) at the 17th anniversary celebration of his Great Indonesia Movement ( Gerindra ) party.
His January law did not specify the justification for the funds breaks. However, according to reports, the savings would go toward his administration’s flagship completely nutritional meals effort as well as Danantara, Indonesia’s new sovereign wealth fund, which will launch on February 24.  ,
” Our persons, our kids, must not go hungry”, said Prabowo at the Gerindra occasion, as reported by news site Kompas.
According to his policy, Sri Mulyani Indrawati’s Ministry of Finance has cut spending across 16 budget categories. These include cuts in recognized travel, advisory service, royal events, meetings, seminars and business resources.
According to media reports, the reduces affect most of Indonesia’s 48 departments as well as other government firms.  ,
Only 16 companies including the Women’s Consultative Assembly, the House of Representatives, the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, the National Police and the previously established National Nutrition Agency, which oversees the free meals initiative, are no impacted.
