SINGAPORE: Changes will be made to the leadership of the People’s Action Party ( PAP ) branches in the Workers ‘ Party-held wards of Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC, the party announced on Thursday ( Feb 13 ).
On February 17, before the 2025 General Election, four political outsiders will assume the position of tree chairman across four divisions.
When standard elections are in these wards, the party’s candidates are usually the party’s candidates.
CNA first reported on the upcoming change on Tuesday, reporting on the resignations of Paya Lebar tree seat Kenny Sim and Bedok Reservoir-Punggol tree seat Victor Lye.
CHANGES IN OPPOSITION-HELD WARDS
Jackson Lam, the current president, will be replaced by Mr. Marshall Lim in Hougang, who took the position in October 2023.
Two of its long-serving tree chairs will also be replaced by a triple shift in Aljunied GRC.
Vice-chairman Adrian Ang of the Bedok Reservoir-Punggol unit may succeed president Victor Lye.
In Kaki Bukit unit, Mr Faisal Abdul Aziz may change Mr Shamsul Kamar.
After six months in that capacity, Mr. Kenny Sim will take over the head of the Paya Lebar branch. He is currently the president of the Citizens ‘ Consultative Committee for the Nee Soon East unit in Nee Soon GRC.
The change will be overseen by the departing unit chairs.
” The group would also like to congratulate outgoing branch chairpersons Victor, Kenny, Shamsul and Jackson for their services to the people, as they continue to serve elsewhere in the celebration”, PAP said in a press release.
