Wee Wai Lin, a veteran Mediacorp executive, has been appointed head and chief editor of the company’s Chinese news and current affairs division, according to a report released on Wednesday ( 12 February ) from 8World.
Ms. Wee was formerly the Taiwanese current affairs unit’s deputy director for 35 times. She takes over from Mr Chua Chim Kang, who has resigned and left the company, said 8World.
8World, a Taiwanese online website, is component of , Mediacorp’s system, which includes CNA.
Building on an already strong foundation, the Chinese news and recent affairs team will improve and expand its online offerings, according to Ms Wee. We will contribute more to the promotion of native Chinese culture and the Chinese language.
According to 8World, Ms. Wee played a significant role in moving the current affairs division from a standard television production team to one with complete electric and TV production capabilities.
Under her authority, the Taiwanese current affairs group launched the new modern series , Frontline Connects. The current interests team’s programs have also won numerous international accolades, including Tuesday Report, which won one silver and three gold medals at the World Media Festival in 2024 and one magic at Cannes Corporate Media &, Television Awards in 2024.
Mr Chua cited wellness reasons for his departure.
He told 8World,” According to my individual health issues, I have decided to put my work on hold for a while and dedicated myself to the recovery process.”
” This is not an easy decision, but I believe this is an important step to ensure a better potential”.
In an inner contact, Mediacorp thanked Mr Chua for his efforts. He led the start of 8World, a single location for Chinese-language information, life and entertainment articles.
In addition to his leadership, he even spearheaded initiatives like the But Young platform for individuals and teachers and the Young Reporter News Challenge, which took home gold at the INMA Global Media Awards 2023.
He also oversaw innovations in youth-centric content through Project CAMP and led revamps that helped Mediacorp’s CAPITAL 958 achieve record-breaking listenership. In 2023 and 2024, the station was ranked among Singapore’s top three radio stations for two consecutive years.
