Fock Siew Wah, founding chairman of LTA and SMRT, dies aged 84

SINGAPORE: Former PSA International chairman &nbsp, Fock Siew Wah, who was also the founding chairman of SMRT and the Land Transport Authority ( LTA ), has died at the age of 84.

Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, in a Facebook post on Monday ( Jan 6), said that he was deeply&nbsp, saddened to hear of Mr Fock’s passing. &nbsp,

” I have known Siew Wah for many years, beginning when we both served on the 1985 Economic Committee. For more than 40 years, he has distinguished himself in both the private and open areas.

Mr. Fock, who was born in 1940, was the first president of LTA and SMRT, subsequently known as Singapore Mass Rapid Transit Limited. Additionally, he served on the boards of government-linked firms like DBS Bank and Singapore Airlines, as well as Temasek Holdings.

In August 2005, he was appointed chairman of PSA International, which he would waiter until he retired in 2019.

” Siew Wah’s vision for ability and his heart for support helped the many organizations he was a part of develop into what they are today,” said Mr. Lee, one of our pioneer leaders.

” We met most recently next February, where I privately thanked him for the work he has done, and more importantly, his friendship and support over four years.

” He may be significantly missed”.

Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat expressed his condolences to his home in a Facebook article on Monday, saying he was saddened to learn about Mr. Fock’s moving.

” Mr. Fock was the Land Transport Authority’s initial Chairman from 1995 to 2002,” said Mr. Chee.
