Man jailed for threatening to send intimate videos of ex-girlfriend to her family and friends

SINGAPORE: A 27-year-old male secretly recorded romantic movies of his ex-girlfriend and threatened to send them to her family and friends.

Aaryan Raina Gobinath admitted to one combined charge of making such threats&nbsp, knowing that this would result in the victim’s distress, and was sentenced to 14 weeks in jail on Monday ( Dec 23 ).

Another mashup of the charge of making personal recordings of the sufferer without the victim’s consent was considered for punishment.

The defendant’s identity is protected by joke order. She and Gobinath had a previous marriage, and they continued to be companions after splitting up.

The prosecutor was informed that Gobinath used the camera recording feature during videos calls with her in October 2022 to secretly record two personal videos of the victim.

In October and November of this year, he furthermore recorded two romantic movies of himself with the sufferer.

Except for the November 2022 tracking, the other three films were made without the person’s acceptance.

Gobinath&nbsp, quarrelled with the target on Nov 19, 2022. He threatened to send the victim, who was unaware, the romantic movie he had earlier that month, to her friend in a text message.

On another occasion, on December 14, 2022, they had a film visit, and Gobinath was upset that the victim claimed he was “dead to her,” according to Deputy Public Prosecutor Gabriel Lee.

Gobinath&nbsp, asked the sufferer to check if her friends had seen personal videos of her, naming two of her close friends in particular.

He said he would “embarrass the s*** out of” her, that he would also give her personal videos to her nephew, and that he&nbsp, may give every video tape that showed her private parts.

On March 10, 2023, Gobinath questioned his ex-girlfriend about her game accounts and claimed she was “daring” him because he had personal video and screengrabs of her.

The four close videos are contained in a Google Drive link that he sent her. That was when the sufferer found out about the three key audio, and became alarmed.

Eventually, Gobinath sent her a piece from the November 2022 movie followed by her family’s telephone number.

The target ignored his emails and blocked his quantity because she thought it was a threat.

Gobinath threatened to send the victim another piece of the picture to her parents and brother while using a unique messaging app, &nbsp.

The girl reported to the police the following day.

The prosecutors sought 15 to 18 months ‘ prison, while the army asked for the lowest possible paragraph.

Mr. Rajan Supramaniam, Gobinath’s attorney, claimed that his client regretted his actions and had deliberately sought pastor-led anger management counseling.

The lawyer claimed Gobinath had even written an explanation letter to the target and that the situation had had an impact on his job and income.

Threatening to disperse sensual photos of someone without their consent is punishable by up to five years in jail, which could include a fine, a caning, or both.

As Gobinath’s command was amalgamated, he may have faced up to twice the penalties.
