Yeo’s lays off 25 employees after Oatly closes Singapore plant; 59 workers affected in total

SINGAPORE: Food and beverage business Yeo’s will throw off 25 staff following Oatly’s decision to close its Singapore flower.

This is in addition to the 34 Oatly people in Singapore who will be impacted by the Swedish beverage giant’s decision to stop producing its products around after opening a store in Senoko three years ago.

This brings the total amount of impacted workers who have been affected by Oatly’s manufacturing plant to 59.

Yeo’s on Thursday ( Dec 19 ), the employees who were impacted by Oatly’s production were specifically hired to support the production Yeo’s partnered with in 2019. &nbsp,

” Yeo ‘s&nbsp, has made every effort to reassign as many as possible, and has successfully placed 16&nbsp, employees in other roles within Yeo’s”, said the company.

” However, the remaining 25 people will be&nbsp, retrenched and will receive compensation plans based on their income and years of service”.

Yeo’s said it was working with the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union ( FDAWU) to ensure&nbsp, adherence to tripartite guidelines and that fair compensation is provided to affected employees.

The employer promised to assist the afflicted people in finding a job and providing career advice.

Oatly opened the&nbsp, S$ 30 million ( US$ 22 million ) production plant in October 2021. It stated on Wednesday that the closure of the business was intended to “improve the company’s future cost structure and minimize potential capital expenditure needs.”

After closing its production facilities in Singapore, the business announced that its German facilities will support its long-expected expansion in the Asia-Pacific area.
