Thai tourists killed, injured in Laos bus crash

Two Thai visitors were killed plus 19 others injured when a tour bus and a 10-wheel truck collided on a street in Savannakhet province of Laos upon Sunday night.

The coach driver and 2 tour guides also passed away in the crash.

The bus was one of the 3 operated by 789 Asia Travel Company that were bringing Thailänder tourists back from the trip to Vietnam, traveling along Route-9 from your Vietnamese border in order to Savannakhet, opposite Thailand’s Mukdahan township.

The incident occurred about 7pm. A bus along with 24 people on board collided with a pickup truck at Ban Lian Xai,   close to Atsaphangthong township, regarding 80 kilometres eastern of Savannakhet.

Five individuals on the bus had been killed – two Thai tourists, the Lao driver, the Lao tour information and a Vietnamese tour guide. Nineteen others were injured : seven seriously plus 12 slightly.

The two Thailänder tourists who died were Mongkol Nasompong and Panida Haoprasong, both from Khon Kaen province. The injured were not yet identified.

The killed and injured were delivered to Savannakhet Hospital.

The departed and injured Thais were later moved across the Mekong water to a hospital in Mukdahan. It was rapidly arranged by the Thai consulate in Savannakhet, Mukdahan deputy governor Boonruang Mekchin and Mukdahan immigration main Pol Col Noppadol Rakchart.

Suthep Chaikhan, owner of 789 Asian countries Travel, said 3 groups of Thai travelers from Khon Kaen and Kalasin provinces on a 4-day tour were on their long ago from Vietnam along Route 9 within three buses. The final bus in the convoy was involved in the incident. Mr Suthep said he was in one of the other buses.
