Hup Huat Noodles suspended due to ‘severe’ cockroach infestation, hygiene lapses

The Singapore Food Agency ( SFA ) announced on Thursday ( Dec. 5 ) that a food processing facility has been suspended until further notice as a result of food safety violations.

SFA said it found” serious” live cockroach infection, as well as poor laundry and preservation at its 10 Chin Bee Drive location, including dirty carpets and food processing tools.

On the same day, its functions were permanently suspended.

SFA has directed the owner to correct the errors and take the necessary steps to strengthen food safety practices and maintain the cleaning of its premises, according to the agency.

Food security is a shared responsibility because contamination can occur anywhere along the food chain. The economy and consumers must also play their part, it continued SFA, saying that while it will continue to be diligent and make sure that regulation measures are in place and effectively enforced.

” All food providers should guarantee that their premises are clear and well-maintained, and employees are properly trained on food security control”.

CNA conducted a search to discover whether Hup Huat products are sold under the Sun product. They are available at stores like NTUC Fairprice and online retailers like Shopee and Lazada, and range from various dried and fresh pasta to soy.

SFA urged food producers to check their premises are tidy and well maintained, and that their staff are properly trained in suitable food safety management.

The SFA may impose sanctions against food processors who do not abide by rules or laws, according to the statement.

Those found guilty can be fined up to S$ 5, 000 ( US$ 3, 700 ) for each offence.
