Additional S$66 million allocated to support R&D programme for Singapore’s urban challenges

SINGAPORE: An additional S$66 mil will be allocated to the particular Cities of Tomorrow research and development programme over the next five many years, announced Minister meant for National Development Desmond Lee on Monday (Aug 1).

The initiative identifies key urban issues and develops R& D solutions to support resilient, sustainable plus liveable cities.

Speaking at this year’s World Cities Summit, Mister Lee said the programme has observed “good progress”.

The additional S$66 million will certainly support developing options that can “help upgrade” Singapore’s ageing infrastructure and create more room for the city’s requirements, he added.

“We will also develop solutions that use the latest technology, like data analytics and AI (artificial intelligence), to enable more effective urban planning that can cope with more difficulty, ” said Mister Lee.

“Through a lot more R& D collaborations amongst the Government, the investigation community and our own private sector, hopefully that the cross-pollination associated with ideas will improve our innovation environment for our urban built environment and assist our city much better address our growing challenges ahead. inch

At the Committee of Supply debates earlier this year, the Ministry of National Development (MND) had announced that an extra S$110 million would be allocated to the Metropolitan areas of Tomorrow programme.
