A Malaysian man is accused of stealing US$ 230 million in cryptocurrency and has requested a” fast test” in the US.
On Thursday ( Nov. 14), Malone Lam, 20, made an appearance before a judge in Washington, DC, to explain the disclosure of facts.
Lam and his associate Jeandiel Serrano have been accused of stealing and launderedling more than 4,100 bitcoins, which were at the moment valued at around US$$ 230 million, while posing as Google employees.
According to US lawyers, the scheme is “one of the largest crypto incidents in the history of the United States.”
Lam reportedly used the money to purchase lots of luxury vehicles and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars each day at clubs in Los Angeles and Miami.
On Thursday night, US Marshals , brought Lam into the court at DC District Court for the little standing reading.
Wearing blue shorts, and a light long-sleeved t-shirt with a blue jail clothing over the top, he sat beside his two doctors. In accordance with court rules, his experience was generally obscured by his spectacles, which were also used to cover his face, and a blue medical face.
Prior to the discovery phase of the trial scheduled for the following year, US attorney Kevin Rosenberg and one of Lam’s lawyers, Patrick J. Queenan, discussed sharing information.  ,
That includes a hard pull,  , online chat , pictures and Lam’s handset, which remains locked.  ,
The judge overseeing trials, Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, said that” the FBI has become quite talented at recovery” of data from devices.
When Kollar-Kotelly inquired about Lam’s” rapid trial,” he responded by saying he was conscious of his rights.
A rapid test is a legal right under the US Constitution that protects against , “undue delay” in legal trial.
A test may be scheduled for March or April 2025, according to the judge.
She even inquired about whether he wanted to continue looking over the evidence that his crew would provide the prosecution.
Lam said:” There’s no need for me to review the revelation from the state”.
In a speech to CNA after Thursday’s reading, his counsel Scott Armstrong said:” Mr Lam is 20 years old and however caught up in a very complex scenario.  , We will vigorously defend him” . ,  ,
