Indonesia’s new leader will make a state visit to China on Friday ( Nov 8 ) to kick off a five-nation tour that might include a meeting with Donald Trump, the president-elect, as he tries to reconcile relations with major powers on his first foreign trip.
Prabowo Subianto, a 73-year-old ex-general inaugurated next month, has pledged to place Jakarta more strongly on the planet level while sticking to its standard non-aligned foreign policy.
Prior to departing, Prabowo said he would initially travel to Beijing, where he is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and then go to Washington at the offer of US President Joe Biden.
The journey will include trips to Peru for the APEC summit and Brazil for the G20 conference of big economies, before ending in Britain, where he will join Prime Minister Keir Starmer, he said.
According to journalist Kompas TV, Prabowo said,” I believe this demonstrates the great relation in which Indonesia is held and the importance of inviting Indonesia to attend in bilateral and multilateral conferences.”
” We did maintain good relations with all events, and this is an honor for us.”
He claimed that at the conclusion of the two-week journey, he “may visit some Middle Eastern countries” on his way up to Indonesia.
Although it is not clear whether Trump did attend his Washington explore, Prabowo’s political spokesman Hasan Nasbi told AFP on Thursday that” there is a chance” conversations with him were on the table.
Prabowo has promised to become bolder with foreign policy than his president, Joko Widodo, who concentrated more on local issues like the business.
Beijing and Jakarta are important financial partners, with Chinese companies investing heavily in the metal and other natural resources sector in recent years.
However, Indonesia drove a Taiwanese coast guard ship three times last month from tense lakes in the South China Sea.
The incidents served as a first check for Prabowo, who has pledged to support the defense of Indonesian place.
