Hotel guests evacuated after shophouses partially collapse along Syed Alwi Road

Following the partial collapse of two shophouses on Syed Alwi Road, two hotels in Little India had to evict their guests in the early hours of Tuesday ( October 8 ).

A second lodge reported damages as a result of the event.

The limited collapse of the two-storey shophouse products at 84 and 85 Mian Alwi Road, &nbsp, which injured six people, is believed to have been caused by a petrol explosion.

It occurred&nbsp, at about 1.30am, &nbsp, with testimony reportedly hearing a loud blast.

Three storehouses away from the damaged site, the Royal India Hotel, informed CNA that around 60 of its guests needed to be evacuated at around 1 a.m. and were only permitted to check-in at 5 a.m. for their room.

Sarah Saraswathy, the hotel’s front table assistant, claimed that because she was pregnant, they had to move one of their visitors to a different resort.

The Arianna Hotel, which is right next door to 84 Syed Alwi Road, is a similar event.

Mr Wong Pek Onn, the hotel’s front desk waiter, told CNA that their shopping time had been pushed up from 12pm to 2pm in light of the event. This may &nbsp, offer their customers more time to rest, he said.

Both hotels had no noticeable destruction, but Mr. Wong claimed that Singapore Civil Defence Force employees were inspecting his hotel. Both receptionists&nbsp, said that firm continued as common on Tuesday.
