April temperatures in Indonesia hottest for more than four decades

As the area experiences a suffocating heat and record-breaking conditions, two senior weather agency authorities reported on Wednesday ( May 8 ) that Indonesia experienced its hottest April in more than four years.

In recent months, Asia has been hit by extreme heat, from India to the Philippines, leading to heatstroke murders, school closures, and determined requests for cooler weather.

” The average air temperature in April 2024 was the highest compared to April from 1981- 2023″, Achmad Fachri Radjab, head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency ( BMKG ) climate change information centre, told AFP.

Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan, BMKG’s lieutenant of hydrology, likewise confirmed the agency’s results to AFP.

According to BMKG information, Indonesia had the highest average air temperatures in a fortnight since 1981, which beat the previous highest regular April temperature by 0.1 degree Celsius.

According to the organization, it increased by almost a degree Celsius in April this year in comparison to the season’s average temperatures of 26.85 degrees Fahrenheit for the time 1991 to 2020.

” This year, it was 0.89 degrees Celsius higher than the average ( for that period )”, said Radjab.

” When it comes to reasons, there are a lot of factors, not just weather factors but also environmental factors that must have an impact”.
