As holidaymakers begin to return from their Songkran split, 142 people died and 1,279 were hurt in traffic incidents between April 11 and April 14.
According to associate federal police commander, Pol Lt Gen Kornchai Klaiklueng, during the time, there were 1,259 reported transportation accidents.
The highest number of injuries and transportation fatalities was in Nathon Si Thammarat, with 50, and there were also 50 in Namphon Si Thammarat.
Bangkok and Roi Et reported the highest death burden, with 10 each.
On Sunday only, there were 317 traffic injuries which resulted in 38 incidents and 311 injury. Nan experienced the most accidents and injuries on that day ( 16 ). Nakhon Sawan reported the highest suicide toll on Sunday, with three incidents.
Some people are starting to travel back to Bangkok and additional local financial centres, according to Pol Lt Gen Kornchai, which has led to an increase in traffic on some national highways.
Chaiwat Chuntirapong, director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said yesterday that the numbers of injuries, fatalities and injuries were lower than last week’s Songkran event.
Ruangsak Suwaree, director-general of the Probation Department, said that from April 11-14 there were 3,890 instances of customers breaches– 96 % of which included drink-driving. Bangkok had the most cases of drink-driving at 399, followed by Nonthaburi ( 227 ) and Samut Prakan ( 214 ).
