Following an incident in which the ship unknowingly fired a shell at HTMS Khirirat in Chon Buri’s Sattahip region on March 13, the captain of HTMS Chonburi has been moved to an inert position with the Royal Thai Fleet.
The boat’s captain, LCdr Theeranai Laosing, was handed a exchange order to show accountability for the occasion while awaiting the analysis, RAdm Chalermchai Suankaew, captain of the Royal Thai Navy’s Patrol Squadron, said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on March 13 at noon while both battleships were docked at Laem Thian Pier at Sattahip Naval Center.
Prior to this, HTMS Chonburi had conducted a fire exercise at water. During the training, the 76mm weapons malfunctioned half, resulting in the 15th and 21st photos getting stuck.
The cannon was fixed until the 37th chance was ready to fire, according to RAdm Chalermchai, but the firing range was deemed illegal, so the objective was aborted.
The ship made a return visit to the marine base. The remaining five shots were taken by authorities, but they were unable to replace two. The launching system’s three remaining members were unable to move.
The ship’s staff could not reduce the shell, but they asked for help from the Naval Ordnance Department. But, a difficulty occurred while removing the joints. According to RAdm Chalermchai, the security system’s more than 40-year lifespan caused malfunctions.
He claimed that the firearm was turned at a level of five levels, causing a barrel to enter the room before being unintentionally fired at HTMS Khirirat, which was docking in front of it while officers attempted to work on the security system.
The 76mm shot destroyed four bedrooms, resulting in 14 hurt.  ,
The nine staff members who suffered minor injuries have since been discharged from Somdech Phra Nangchao Sirikit Hospital in Sattahip area, according to Royal Thai Fleet Chief Adm Chatchai Thongsaard.
As their conditions have improved, the various five seamen who were immediately in critical condition have been moved from the intensive care unit to a particular treatment center.  ,
The navy may offer compensation to all wounded, said Adm Chatchai.
