Vivian Balakrishnan meets Netanyahu, tells Israeli leaders military actions in Gaza have 'gone too far'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Tuesday that he had rejected President Biden’s request to postpone a planned earth assault against Rafah.

Asked about Singapore’s position on the probable Rafah activity, Dr Balakrishnan said:” We are deeply concerned that this unpleasant, or planned unpleasant, into Rafah may have a significant impact on the people who are already clustered in that location. We have expressed that issue”.

Dr. Balakrishnan added that Singaporeans “must understand the importance of engaging across the board” and that Singapore” may afford to… bird and support.”

Dr. Balakrishnan speculated on whether Singapore-Israeli relationships may suffer if Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu refuses to spear down under international pressure.

He said:” In the end, he is the man who has to make the decisions for Israel.

” We are not the rulers of Israel. He is responsible to his folks. And he will even be responsible for the consequences.”

We’re hoping for the best, but we need to be aware that this is another repeat incident of crime in a disturbed region of the world, he continued.

In its reports launch on Wednesday, &nbsp, MFA said&nbsp, Dr Balakrishnan highlighted Singapore’s help for a negotiated two- condition solution consistent with the important United Nations Security Council resolutions during his visit.

Singapore will continue to support the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s ( RSAF ) airdrop mission to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza in partnership with regional partners, including Jordan and Israel.

Dr. Balakrishnan departs from Israel on Wednesday for the United Arab Emirates. As part of his Middle East trip, he will also travel to Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

He is accompanied by a delegation that includes Workers ‘ Party MP Gerald Giam, Ms. Alex Yam, Ms. Nadia Ahmad Samdin, Ms. Rachel Ong, and Mr. Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim.

Dr. Balakrishnan provided updates to the Palestinian leaders on Singapore’s humanitarian assistance to Gaza, including its third tranche of aid and a donation of S$ 6.1 million that the Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation collected for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East during his visit to Ramallah on Monday.
