SINGAPORE: Mediacorp and Singapore Polytechnic (SP) have renewed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to provide students with job attachments and various opportunities to learn about the media industry.
The three-year agreement outlines several programmes and initiatives, with the aim of nurturing a pool of skilled media professionals.
For instance, subject experts from Mediacorp, CNA’s parent company, will conduct sharing sessions about trends, norms and what to expect in the media industry.
Students could explore podcast projects with meLISTEN or get industry experience by taking on freelance work for content productions or events.
“The strategic partnership, spanning three years, is dedicated to nurturing SP students by deepening their engagement with the local media ecosystem and equipping them with the necessary skills to meet industry demands upon graduation,” the polytechnic said on Thursday (Mar 7).
Central to the collaboration is the establishment of SP’s Media, Arts and Design (MAD) digital content creation agency named Re/Define.
It will partner Mediacorp’s You Got Watch and Clarity to produce content tailored exclusively for youth, SP said.
The MOU was signed as SP celebrated its 70th anniversary this year. The polytechnic said it is placing a “heightened emphasis” on industry collaboration to ensure students remain adaptable and industry-ready.
“We aim to cultivate a pipeline of creative, passionate and industry-savvy talents poised to navigate the dynamic challenges of the industry,” said the principal and CEO of Singapore Polytechnic Soh Wai Wah.
Mediacorp CEO Tham Loke Kheng said: “We are delighted to continue partnering Singapore Polytechnic in sharing our industry knowledge and expertise, as well as to provide opportunities for students to put what they have learnt in the classroom to practice.”
