Singapore looks to attract more competitive squash players ahead of the sport’s Olympic debut in 2028

SINGAPORE: National pumpkin person Au Yeong Wai Yhann is currently making great strides in her sport at the age of 24.

At the Professional Squash Association Challenger Tour, one of the biggest competitions for up-and-coming players in the world, she became the first native woman to get an event in September of this year. &nbsp,

She is ranked 84th worldwide and intends to enter the professional ranks by June of next year, especially in light of the sport’s participation in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. The International Olympic Committee ( IOC ) officially chose squash for inclusion in October of this year. &nbsp,

” I have a really great opportunity, and that has really inspired me to work hard for it.” So, Au Yeong told CNA,” I’m really hoping I get the chance to take part in it ( the Olympics ). &nbsp,

The six-time national hero and SEA Games medalist added that when she tells people about pumpkin, some do not know what it is, but that reputation for the game is lacking in Singapore.

” Squash is going to be shown anywhere because it’s on the Olympic stage, and everyone in the world will be watching it.” She added that she hoped this would encourage more young Singaporeans to take up the game by demonstrating how challenging our activity is, how many different tactics are used it, and the physicality of it. &nbsp,
