Road traffic in Chinatown disrupted by falling mid-autumn festival street decorations

SINGAPORE: On Thursday evening( Sept 21 ), road traffic in a portion of the Chinatown area was hampered for more than an hour as some mid-autumn festival decorations came loose and prevented some vehicles from passing through.

Social media users’ photos and videos revealed that the affected designs were hung all over Upper Cross Street. However, after being let loose, the decorations began to sag below their intended slope, which caused some vehicles to become impassable.

The Land Transport Authority ( LTA ) said it saw” a fallen obstacle at Upper Cross Street” at around 7 p.m. on Friday in response to CNA’s inquiries, and two out of five lanes were impacted.

According to SBS Transit spokeswoman Grace Wu, the area’s double-decker buses were unable to pass through” due to & nbsp; the height obstruction caused by the sagging street decorations.” & nbsp,

Before a momentary way diversion was implemented to reduce inconvenience, passengers were transferred to single-decker buses for security reasons. & nbsp,

Less than an hour after, according to Mrs. Wu, its double-decker cars resumed normal operations. & nbsp,

We appreciate our passengers’ tolerance and participation throughout the event.

At around 8.45 p.m., the obstacle was removed and all lanes” reopened ,” according to LTA. & nbsp,

The designs were erected as part of the yearly Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival, which runs from September 15 to October 14. & nbsp,

Chinatown Festival Committee has been contacted by CNA for more details.
