SONGKHLA: A tentative list of Unesco World Heritage Sites will soon include Songkhla’s old town, according to the provincial administrative organization( PAO ) and civil society of this southern region.

A specialist has been hired to create a development and management plan for the old town in order to ensure that it complies with Unesco’s recommendations for world heritage sites, PAO president Paijen Maksuwan announced on Thursday in front of local officials and political organizations.

Mr. Paijen claims that Songkhla is a significant regional buying center with centuries-old traditions in the arts and culture. Due to its extensive cultural history, Songkhla is one of the two southern counties that have been designated as national heritage sites.

He claimed that the state’s efforts to preserve the ancient town, a well-liked tourist destination, for educational purposes and sustainable development would be supported by the advancement and management plan.

According to Phoppon Thongkhanarak, chairman of the PAO’s capital planning division, the consultant is tasked with identifying the old town as having exceptional values and establishing standards for assessing the provinces potential in terms of development and management.

According to her, the PAO did learn more about different historical sites in the state and consult with experts in a variety of fields to assess their suitability for designation as world heritage sites.

In the past, two commissions working to promote Songkhla as a world heritage site gave the provincial government the go-ahead to submit the draft report titled” Songklla and related areas along Songmla Lake” for distribution to the Fine Arts Department.

Four sites in the county are suggested for inclusion on the cautious list in this review document. They include the historic communities of Phangyang, Phakho, and Sathing Phra, as well as Songkhla’s former town and the old fortresses at Khao Daeng and Laem Son.

With an extra six historical and natural sites listed on the Unesco Tentative List, quite as Phuphrabat Historical Park in Udon Thani, Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan in Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Pharaoh That Phanom, the nation now has four social World Heritage Sites and three biological world heritage sites.
