Singapore gives conditional nod for 2GW of electricity imports from Indonesia

SINGAPORE: On Friday( Sep 8 ), Singapore’s Energy Market Authority ( EMA ) granted conditional approvals for five companies to import 2 gigawatts( GW ) of low-carbon electricity from Indonesia.

When EMA first determines that the proposed power import projects are physically and economically feasible, conditional clearances are granted. They assist businesses in obtaining the required licenses and regulatory certifications.

The five companies in charge of the projects are Keppel Energy, Pacific Medco Solar, PT Adaro Clean Energy Indonesia, EDP Renewables APAC, and Vanda RE( formated by Gurin Energy and Gentari International Renewable ), as well as Pacific Light Renewable( formed by PacificPower Global and Gallant Venture ).

Their import capacities have been approved at 0 GW, 0. 4GW, 0.4GW( 0.3GW ), and 0. 3GW( 0. 2 ), respectively.

According to EMA, manufacturing facilities for solar photovoltaics( PV ) and battery energy storage systems ( BESS ) will be established in Indonesia as a result of these projects, and they intend to begin operating commercially at the end of 2027.
