A blind singer’s incredible journey to the stage: ‘I don’t want pity, just the same opportunities’

Hired song Wan Wai Yee is available. She occasionally belts out Taylor Swift or Celine Dion knocks at weddings, birthday parties, and dinners. She even busks on the sidewalks to make ends meet.

This may seem like a normal situation for many aspiring musicians in our town, some of whom have given up secure jobs and normal pay checks in order to perform at gigs with the hope of one day becoming successful.

Wan’s situation, however, stands out as being unique. She was born deaf. & nbsp,

She had retinopathy of prematurity( ROP ), an eye condition that affects some premature babies, and was born several months before her due date and weighed about 1 kg at birth. In Wan’s situation, this resulted in complete blindness and abnormal blood vessel growth in the eye.

Wan discovered that several doors were closed to her as a performer because she was blind.

People now believe you are blind, so what can you do even if they don’t listen to you or know what you’re doing? she remarked.
