Two shot dead at army college, soldier arrested

A sergeant-major said to be mentally ill photo two colleagues lifeless and wounded an additional at the Army Battle College of the Military Training Command in Bangkok’s Dusit area on Wednesday early morning.

Exclusive operations police were called the army university in Dusit region about 8. 45am. Initial reports mentioned one person had been chance dead and an additional wounded.

A spokesman after that said the present shooter was a mentally ill soldier who was harmful to kill 10 people.

Army deputy spokeswoman Col Sirichan Ngathong said later which the shooter was Sgt Maj Yongyut Mangkornkim, 59, an management clerk at the Army War College.

Col Sirichan said that about 8. 45am Sgt Maj Yongyut walked in to the administration office carrying a gun and opened up fire.

He killed Sgt Maj Nopparat Intarasunthorn and Sgt Maj Prakan Sinsong plus wounded Sgt Maj Yongyuth Panyanuwat. All of were administrative man or women in the same workplace.

The injured Sgt Maj Yongyuth was rushed in order to Phramongkutklao Hospital regarding emergency treatment.

After the capturing, Sgt Maj Yongyut left the college developing. He was immediately arrested by law enforcement waiting in front of the Military Training Command.

An investigation might establish the motive for the crime, Col Sirichan said.

According to details from his workplace, Sgt Maj Yongyut was stressed together health problems. He has been on record because having suffered from psychological illness.

Col Sirichan stated those killed and injured would be well-taken care of. Police dealing with the case would get full cooperation to make sure justice for all worried, Col Sirichan said.

“The army would like to extend its condolences towards the families of those killed and injured. It is a big loss to both the army plus those  families, ” she said.

In Feb 2020, a jewellry shot dead 29 people in a 17-hour rampage and wounded scores more just before he was shot dead by commandos in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

That mass capturing was linked to a debt dispute between gunman Sgt Maj 1st Class Jakrapanth Thomma, 32, along with a senior officer, and the military top metal were at aches and pains to portray the killer as a fake soldier.
