This school in Bali shows that a space for education can be beautiful and eco-friendly

Situated in the lush jungles of Ubud in Bali is the Green School, an international college and community known around the world for its holistic approach to education. The academy is highly focused on sustainability naturally it is built to end up being eco-friendly too. The unique buildings are made predominantly from bamboo bedding, mud and lawn, and the campus operates entirely on alternative energy; even food waste is converted into compost.

“We believe that education has to change. It needs to adapt to the future, ” said Sal Gordon, head of teaching plus learning at Eco-friendly School Bali, that has been at the school for nearly a decade. “Our students learn to make the world sustainable, and believe the purpose of training should be to make the planet a better place. ”

The wall-less Heart of School is how a lot of the action happens. Unlike other institutions where teachers need the students’ full attention, here it is perfectly understandable when some distractions occur.

“Being wall-less has its benefits, obviously it is connected to the natural environment. There are also problems within that too because it is quite distracting, ” said Gordon. This individual cited cute rabbits hopping in the lawn outside the building as one such example. “But it is okay to obtain distracted by nature. ”
