SINGAPORE: Tuas Port, which will anchor the future Traditional western Gateway, officially opened on Thursday (Sept 1) with three berths operational.
Prime Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) Lee Hsien Loong hailed the mega project as a port of the future and a vital engine driving Singapore’s economy.
In the speech at the opening ceremony, Mr Lee said Tuas Interface will position Singapore well to “support the growth in maritime traffic and world-wide trade and develop our connectivity together with capability to provide helpful and reliable services”.
“It will reinforce Singapore’s status as an essential maritime centre, and enable many related market sectors to flourish, ” said Mr Lee.
Tuas Port, expected to are the world’s largest fully-automated port upon finalization, can accommodate your world’s largest textbox ships and will be qualified to handle larger vessels built in the future. It will also be able to manage a greater number and larger density of charter boat movements safely and effectively.
The mega port will also anchor the future Western Gateway, serving nearby industrial sectors at the Jurong Water District, Jurong New development District, and Jurong and Tuas commercial areas.
“Being closer to the slot means faster and also cheaper port providers. This means more efficient generation, and quicker turn-around for their products to get exported to worldwide markets. Sectors such as advanced manufacturing, cold-chain, e-commerce, and logistics will benefit the virtually all, ” said Mr Lee.
Reclamation works for any first phase of the mega port venture were completed delayed last year, with reclamation works for Phase 2 under means.
Mister Lee had explained at this year’s Nationwide Day Rally the fact that the Government decided to get rid of all port surgical procedures at the existing Tanjong Pagar, Brani, Keppel and Pasir Panjang terminals into one super port at Tuas.
