SINGAPORE: Indonesia has been approved as a new source for the import of chilled, frozen plus processed chicken, stated the Singapore Meals Agency (SFA) upon Thursday (Jun 30).
This particular adds to the list of more than 20 countries accredited to export poultry to Singapore.

Singapore recently faced some disruptions to its flow of chilled chicken right after Malaysia imposed an export ban on Jun 1 . About one-third of Singapore’s chicken supply will be from Malaysia.
SFA mentioned a Singapore group recently visited Philippines to audit its food safety and animal health regulates.
The group visited various services such as farms, pen stations and laboratories to better understand the regulatory systems in place.
“Chickens can only become imported from sources accredited by SFA to ensure that sources have the required systems, procedures and capabilities to supply chicken that can satisfy our food basic safety and animal wellness standards to Singapore, ” said the agency.
It added that individual institutions and farms would also need to be evaluated and approved, along with detailed documentary evaluations and on-site audits for verification.
“The consignments would certainly also be subjected to SFA’s inspection, sampling plus testing upon import. This ensures the continuity of SFA’s source diversification technique without compromising food safety, ” stated the agency.
