Hong Kong can ease its Covid hotel quarantine requirements for people arriving through overseas, Chief Executive Bob Lee said on Monday.

From Friday, those arriving in the city will have to stay at designated quarantine hotels for 3 days.

They are going to then undergo an additional four days of “medical surveillance” either in your own home or at any resort.

Currently, overseas arrivals have to pen for seven days from designated hotels.

Throughout the “medical surveillance” time period, people can go away but may not enter places that require vaccine passes to be examined, including bars, gyms and amusement centers.

They are also barred from participating in any mask-off activities – such as certain forms of workout – or getting into homes for the aged or disabled people and designated medical venues.

But if they will test negative everyday during the four-day time period, they can take open public transport, go to function and enter shopping centres or community markets.

Mister Lee said that the federal government would “actively control” the number of Covid cases.

Covid cases jumped in Hong Kong earlier this year after the arrival of the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

Because the rest of the world leads to, the city’s insistence on maintaining tight travel restrictions, that have put the economy under severe strain, continues to be increasingly criticised.
