Thailand nightclub fire kills at least 13 and injures dozens

At least 13 people were murdered and 41 others injured after an open fire swept through at a nightclub in Chonburi province in south-eastern Thailand.

Footage circulating on-line showed people running the club screaming, some with their clothes alight.

Rescuers say flammable material on the walls may have exacerbated the blaze.

The location in Chonburi, a province located 150km (90mi) south associated with Bangkok, was a single-storey complex measuring 4, 800 square metres.

Firefighters battled for more than two hours to bring the fire under control, stated local reports.

Bodies of the lifeless, four of whom were women and nine of which were males, were mostly found near the entrance and in the bathrooms. Other people were found close to the DJ booth.

All the victims so far are believed to be Thailänder nationals.

The precise cause of the fireplace has yet to become determined, though authorities from the Sawang Rojanathammasathan Rescue Foundation mentioned flammable acoustic polyurethane foam on the clubs’ walls might have accelerated the velocity at which the fire tore through the location.

Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said concerning Friday that groups of victims would be given aid from authorities together with urged entertainment sites nationwide to ensure among the proper emergency explosions and safety measures on hand.

This is not the first time a fireplace has broken out in a Thai nightclub.

In 2009, around 60 people died in Bangkok after having a fire broke away at the Santika Nightclub in the early hours of New Year’s Moment. Two men, such as the owner of the golf club, were jailed this year and the years to come.

A fire at a club in the popular Thai tourist destination associated with Phuket in 2012 destroyed four people plus injured about a 12 others.
