21-year-old to be charged over hit-and-run accident along Sims Avenue

SINGAPORE: A 21- year- older man may be charged in court on Monday ( Mar 25 ) for his presumed participation in a hit- and- run case which caused two people to suffer major injuries. &nbsp,

The authorities said they were alerted on Saturday at about 11.40pm to an accident&nbsp, involving a vehicle and two pedestrians along Sims Avenue towards Sims Avenue East.

A 51- season- aged man and a 32- year- aged woman were mindful when taken to hospital. They are now warded for care.

” The vehicle did not stop to render aid to the injured and reportedly fled the scene after the crash”, said the officers in a news release. &nbsp,

Through surface questions and with the aid of video footage from a testimony and police devices, Traffic Police officials established the identity of the vehicle and arrested him on Sunday.

In images of the affair circulating online, &nbsp, a vehicle is seen passing a string of shophouses before it collides with two persons crossing the road. &nbsp,

The two commuters are flung into the air upon effect with the vehicle seen moving off without stopping. &nbsp,

The person will get charged in court with various offences: Driving without due care causing severe upset, driving without a true permission, driving without insurance coverage, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, failing to stop after an accident, failing to offer help to the injured after an accident and moving the vehicle without a police officer’s authority.

The offence of driving without due care causing grievous hurt carries a fine of up to S$ 5, 000, an imprisonment term of up to two years, or both. &nbsp,

For driving without a valid licence, a person may face a fine of up to S$ 10, 000, a jail term of up to three years, or both. &nbsp,

The offence of using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage, taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and moving the vehicle without a police officer’s authority, carries a fine of up to S$ 1, 000, or a jail term of up to three months, or both, for each of the offences.

For failing to stop after an accident and render assistance to the injured, a person may face a fine of up to S$ 1, 000, a jail term of up to three months, or both. &nbsp,
