2 imported cases of new Omicron subvariant BA.2.75 reported in Singapore

SINGAPORE: Two imported COVID-19 cases with the Omicron subvariant BA. 2 . 75 have been found in Singapore as of Thursday (Jul 14), said the Ministry associated with Health (MOH).  

In response to CNA’s queries, MOH said that both people had recently travelled to India and had immediately self-isolated right after testing positive with regard to COVID-19.

The particular BA. 2 . seventy five subvariant, which is nicknamed Centaurus, was first recognized in India in early May.

Since then, there have been cases reported in nearly ten other countries, such as the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Germany and North america.

WHO’s main scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan said there have been not yet sufficient samples to evaluate its severity, as reported by The Guardian.  

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control specified the BA. 2 . 75 variant like a “variant under monitoring” on Jul 7.

This means that there is certainly some indication that it could be more transmissible or associated with more serious disease, but the evidence is weak or has not yet been assessed.

Singapore reported  9, 153 new COVID-19 cases as of noon upon Saturday, comprising 8, 691 local bacterial infections and 462 imported cases.

There have been three fatalities, taking the death toll through coronavirus complications to at least one, 450.

Upon Saturday, a total associated with 771 patients were in hospital, according to the latest infection stats on the  MOH website. Ninety-eight patients require oxygen supplements.
