Authorities in Singapore are looking into gastroenteritis reports from the Civil Defence Academy after more than 160 employees fell ill between Tuesday ( Jul 23 ) and Wednesday.
As of Wednesday, 165 people were reported to have developed gastroenteritis symptoms, the Singapore Food Agency ( SFA ) and Ministry of Health ( MOH) said on Friday in response to CNA’s query.
None of them were hospitalised, read the mutual declaration.  ,
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers from the university experienced “mild gastroenteritis”, SCDF told CNA on Friday.
The signs included chest pain and diarrhea, it added.
” All impacted officers received three days of inpatient sick leave and had sought medical care.”
As a precautionary measure,  , the cafeteria and dorms were carefully cleaned and disinfected, SCDF said.
“SCDF takes a critical view of the well-being of our employees, and is working with the appropriate government to investigate the incident”.
The cookhouse may stay closed pending the completion of the investigation and making other meal arrangements, it continued.
SFA and MOH stated that they will not hesitate to take police action against accidental food operators.
” Food security is a mutual responsibility. Food users must play their part by adhering to fine food safety procedures while SFA implements and maintains the regulations.
