11 arrested after construction firms make CPF contributions to non-workers to inflate foreigner quotas

SINGAPORE: Eleven people have been arrested for allegedly providing the Ministry of Manpower ( MOM) with false employment information, the ministry said on Friday ( Jan 24 ).

They are alleged to have done this in order to increase the getting requirements for immigrants at eight development companies.

The defendants were detained on Tuesday following attacks by MOM soldiers at 37 locations.

Five Singaporeans who are the directors of the eight development businesses were among those detained, and they range in age from 42 to 57.

Four additional Singaporeans and two permanent residents were likewise detained for allegedly aiding the executives in filing false work statements.

According to a press release from MOM, these eight construction companies reportedly contributed to Singaporeans and permanent residents who were not employed in an effort to increase their hiring quota to foreigners.

” Some of these Singapore and permanent people are suspected of being approached by the managers for their personal information in exchange for financial incentives.

Additional 16 people are being looked into for similar crimes, according to the government.

On its site, MOM says that a company’s international employee quota is calculated based on the number of&nbsp, native workers it has, and this is determined through data from the bank’s CPF accounts.

For the building industry, foreign workers may not make up more than 83.3 per share of a company’s entire workforce.

Employers and job complete applicants are required to provide accurate and reliable statements to the controller of labor passes under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, and they are only permitted to employ foreigners with appropriate work permits.

Those convicted of making false declarations in work pass applications face up to two years in prison, a fine of up to S$ 20, 000 ( US$ 14, 800 ), or both.

” Accidental businesses may include their work go privileges suspended, and the labor pass&nbsp, person may get barred from working in Singapore”, said MOM.

” Anyone who colludes with an employer&nbsp, by providing his particulars for use in making fraudulent CPF contributions in order to meet&nbsp, the requirements of work permit applications may also be prosecuted”, it added.
