Zhuhai: Driver Fan Weiqiu sentenced to death after car attack

A man was given a death sentence for the murder of dozens of people in southern China by driving his car into persons exercising outside a facility.

Fan Weiqiu was accused of “endangering people safety”, according to a jury speech.

The 11 November assault in Zhuhai, which is thought to be the deadliest on Chinese soil for a decade, left at least 35 people dead and lots more hurt.

The 62-year-old, according to the court, made the decision to push his car into the masses at great speed on a running record because he was “dissatisfied” with how his house had been divided following his marriage.

The judge described his purpose as “extremely nasty” and” the strategies” as “particularly cruel”. One witness claimed that he had driven “in a circle,” leaving victims “hurt all over the running monitor,” a popular place for exercise.

Fan admitted his guilt in front of victims ‘ families and members of the public, according to Chinese media reports. He was initially said to be in a coma after suffering self-inflicted knife wounds.

One of 19 attacks aimed at neighbors this year, including two that occurred a week after the Zhuhai invasion, was carried out in China.

Certainly all have involved cars. At least 21 people were killed in a massive stab and weapon attack in Shandong in February. That incident was heavily censored by Chinese regulators.

In total, at least 63 people have been killed and 166 injured in these problems. This is a strong increase on previous ages- 16 killed and 40 injured in 2023, for example.

Some have suggested that the rise in obscure attacks may indicate a general rise in frustration and rage as the economy recovers and future uncertainty grows.

” These are symptoms of a nation with a lot of pent-up concerns”, Lynette Ong, teacher of Chinese elections at the University of Toronto in Canada, told AFP media company in November.
