Zelenskyy says no ceasefire without recovering land lost to Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said a ceasefire with The ussr without reclaiming lost territories would just prolong the battle, according to an interview with all the Wall Street Journal on Friday (Jul 22).

He warned that a ceasefire that allows Russia to keep Ukrainian territories seized since the invasion in February would only motivate an even wider turmoil, giving Moscow a chance to replenish and rearm for the next circular.

Zelenskyy furthermore spoke about US-supplied high mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS), saying, “the Traditional western supplies of Himars, while making a material difference, are much lower than what Ukraine needs to turn the wave. ”

“Freezing the conflict with all the Russian Federation means a pause which gives the Russian Federation a break for rest, ” the Wall Street Journal reported, citing feedback by Zelenskiy.

He said, “Society believes that all the territories must be separated first, and then we are able to negotiate about what to carry out and how we could reside in the centuries ahead”.

“A a lot more pressing need is air-defense systems that could prevent Russia from pouring long-range missiles on otherwise peaceful cities hundreds of miles from your front lines, inch Zelenskyy added.

Referring to the deal agreed upon with Russia in order to reopen grain exports Zelenskyy said, “Diplomatic concessions to Moscow might stabilise the markets somewhat, but might only provide a short-term respite and boomerang in the future”.

Russia and Ukraine signed a landmark deal on Friday to reopen Ukrainian Black Sea ports for grain exports, raising hopes that the international food turmoil aggravated by the Russian invasion can be eased.
