Zahid urges calm among Umno members over Najib’s imprisonment

PETALING JAYA: Umno will certainly rally behind the former president Datuk Seri Najib Razak in his other court cases to ensure that he can get justice and never be victimised by political pressure, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Umno president expressed despair over the Federal Court’s decision in upholding Najib’s conviction plus sentence in the SRC International Bhd situation.

“To almost all Umno members, let us remain calm and set some determination, that most forms of irregularities in the system to protect proper rights, will become one of the agenda for it to become fixed, ” he said in a declaration on Wednesday (Aug 24).

Ahmad Zahid added that despite the Federal Courtroom decision, it would not really erase the efforts made by Najib whenever he was the primary minister.

Najib, who is now in jail over the RM42mil SRC International situation, has four a lot more pending court cases.

He is facing another trial involving SRC International Sdn Bhd. He is being charged with three counts of money washing totalling RM27mil.

He is alleged to have obtained the RM27mil from AmIslamic Bank Bhd’s Jalan Raja Chulan branch, Kuala Lumpur, on July eight, 2014.

Their second case requires four charges associated with using his place to obtain bribes totalling RM2. 3bil through 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) funds and 21 charges of money laundering involving the exact same amount.

Najib was said to have used his position in order to order amendments towards the 1MDB final audit report before it was presented to the Public Accounts Committee to avoid any action being taken against him.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Prime Minister’s Department Complex, Government Administrative Centre in Putrajaya between February 22 and twenty six, 2016.

Each were charged under Section 23 (1) of the MACC Function 2009, which provides for a jail term as high as 20 years and a good of no less than 5 times the amount of gratification or RM10, 500, whichever is increased, upon conviction.
