‘Your dreams will inspire my actions’: Prime minister-in-waiting Lawrence Wong urges Singaporeans to work with him

In a video released on social media on Monday ( Apr 15 ), Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong stated in a late-thirties interview that he did not anticipate being asked to serve as the next Prime Minister.

“ I agreed ( in 2011 ) because I wanted to contribute to the Singapore story, ” said Mr Wong, now 51.

The announcement that Mr. Wong, who is also the Finance Minister, may succeed PM Lee Hsien Loong on May 15 was made public soon after the announcement.

Mr. Wong did lead Singapore as its third prime minister. He was named two years ago as the leader of the ruling People’s Action Party’s ( PAP ) fourth-generation team.

I take on this obligation with sincerity and a sincere sense of duty. I pledge to give my all in this task, ” he said in the film, which lasted about a minute and a half.

Every second of every second of my time will be used for the good of our nation and our citizens. Your goals will encourage my steps. Your problems will guide my selections. ”

He urged Singaporeans to share their ideas, interests, and aspirations and collaborate with his staff on the development.

“Together we can build a future that shines brightly for all Singaporeans, ” he said.

He asked for Singaporeans ’ trust, support and continued faith in pursuing the shared vision of the country.

“As one united people regardless of race, speech or religion, we will create a democratic society based on justice and equality, ” said Mr Wong.

Let’s move ahead as a team, Singapore, and come together to pen the next section of our shared history about Singapore. ”
