In a letter to his followers and American Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, an American novelist imprisoned in China, he described his “unforgettable suffering” as his fifth year in jail.
Yang Hengun, who is Chinese-born, was last year given a suspended death statement by a Beijing judge on espionage charges, anything he denies.
He thanked Albanese in his text, stating that he and the American government were making an effort to bring me home for treatment and reconciliation with my household.
Foreign minister Penny Wong stated in a speech that Dr. Yang’s email “deeply moved” both her and Albanese and that they “wanted to see him return to Australia and be reunited with his home.”
Dr. Yang, who recently worked for the Chinese Ministry of State Security, frequently avoided strong criticism of the government in his blog posts.
He was living in New York when he was intercepted at the aircraft along with his wife and her baby, both of whom were Foreign nationals, when they were flown to Guangzhou in January 2019.
Since then, his case has mostly been conducted behind closed doors, and in 2024, he was given the suspended demise sentence, which is usually converted to life in prison after two years.
Albanese at the time called the statement an “outrage”.
China maintains, however, that Yang’s event was “rigorously handled” in accordance with the law. Additionally, it cautioned American authorities against irrationally.
Dr. Yang denied the allegations, but he did not contest the ruling due to concerns that it might wait health care, according to his family. After developing a large tumour on one of his organs, there have been concerns about his declining health.
Dr. Yang thanked the government’s officials and the Australian Embassy in China for their assistance during his most difficult and dark period of life in his most recent text.
” All of this sprinkling and pleasure has helped me deal with what has been terrible suffering,” he wrote.
He claimed that he still loved both China and Australia, calling the former” the motherland in which ]he was born, raised in, and made strong” and the latter” the beloved children’s motherland.”
” I dream,” I said. That there isn’t a battle, no abuse, or rudeness. People of all races, ethnicities, and colors genuinely love one another like sisters and brothers.
Wong characterized Yang’s notice as” a message of deep courage, resilience, and hope despite incredibly challenging circumstances.”
Due to strained ties between the two countries in recent years, many people have been detained and charged with spy and foreign interference.
