Xi Jinping sends sympathy message to Joe Biden over COVID-19 infection

BEIJING: Chinese language President Xi Jinping sent a sympathy message to his United States counterpart Joe Biden upon Friday (Jul 22), China’s state broadcaster CCTV reported, per day after the 79-year-old US leader tested optimistic for COVID-19.

Biden on Thursday insisted he or she was “doing great”, and said he would continue to work while isolating at the Whitened House with mild symptoms.

“I would like to express my deep sympathies for you and wish a speedy recovery, inch Xi wrote in the message, CCTV reported.

It is the initial public contact between both leaders given that their last digital summit four several weeks ago, as connections between the two worldwide superpowers continue to deteriorate over issues which includes Taiwan, Ukraine plus technology sector competition.

Beijing recently blasted a planned trip simply by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in order to Taiwan. Were Pelosi to go, it would be one of the most senior-level US recognized visit to the self-ruled island – which China claims will be part of its territory – under the Biden administration.

Pelosi also raised the possibility of a military escalation from China, saying Thursday: “Maybe the military was afraid our plane would get shot down or something like that from the Chinese. ”
