NEW DELHI: On Saturday, September 9, after the first day of the G20 Leaders Summit in New Delhi, India served grain, a staple for thousands of Indians, to earth leaders.
The food was served at the large table occupied by influential people like US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and prime minister of Japan Fumio Kishida. It ranged from plant snacks to dessert.
Three courses of vegetarian meal with various types of wheat were served at the supper hosted by American President Droupadi Murmu to commemorate the” autumn season of abundance.”
The main course was a pineapple cake with grain snacks, cake leaf-tossed Kerala red wheat, and glazed forest mushrooms. Alongside Mumbai’s renowned” Pao” or sweet buns, there was also bakarkhani, a thick special flat bread typically served in Mughlai food.
The famous filter coffee from southern India, Darjeeling tea, and Kashmiri kahwa from the north were also served.
After Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization designated 2023 as the International Year of cereals, wheat has gained popularity as a good substitute for maize or wheat.
The adaptable and environmentally friendly ingredient corn was present at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state dinner at the White House earlier this year.
The G20 nations earlier adopted a consensus statement that called on all nations not to use force to annex place while avoiding condemning Russia for the conflict in Ukraine.
Their resolution also made notice of Millet.
According to the speech,” We encourage efforts to strengthen study collaboration on climate-resilient and healthy grains like millets, quinoa, and sorghum, as well as other conventional crops such as rice, wheat and maize.”
