Woman killed by elephant at kathin ceremony

An agitated young elephant attacked a woman and seriously injured two others during a significance service in Bueng Khan’s northern province.

Witnesses said the rhinoceros, an immature bulls, had been teased before running amuck.

The deadly attack took place on Sunday during a kathin service in the Bueng Kan province’s Pak Khat area. Three people were injured, two people and a person. They were rushed to Pak Khat doctor, where a 47-year-old girl, identified only as Priyawan, was pronounced dead.

According to authorities, the two girls were sitting in a howdah on the animal’s back. The deluxe became agitated, running madly about. The unhappy elephant then attacked Priyawan after the two girls fell to the ground. She suffered many wounds, the rescuers said.

A gentleman standing near was also injured, the animal’s swinging stem sending him crashing into a parked bicycle.
