Woman found dead with baby showed no signs of suicidal thoughts, but help always available, coroner stresses

Warning: This history contains links to death.

SINGAPORE: A 33-year-old woman’s postnatal emotional testing revealed no signs of her being” not at risk of postnatal sadness” despite her postnatal emotional testing indicating that she was” not at risk of postnatal depression.”

However, the woman removed her one-year-old daughter from their Housing and Development Board ( HDB) block before passing away when her husband and son were traveling with them in November 2023.

In a set of written findings released on Friday ( Sep 27 ), a coroner declared the woman’s death a suicide and the death of her daughter an unlawful killing.

In his conviction, State Coroner Adam Nakhoda said it does “never been entirely understood” why the family decided to take her career and her daughter’s.

No murder notes or letters from the family were found during police investigations. One can only speculate that she had a lot of stress and perhaps untreated psychiatric illnesses, which made her feel like she had no choice but to take the drastic steps she took, he said.

” Unfortunately, in the present scenario, it seems unlikely that the family had any suicidal thoughts.”

He stressed that help does “always be attainable” for people with suicidal ideations, whether from relatives, friends, health practitioners or institutions like the Charities of Singapore.

The SOS has a 24-hour service, or they can reach them via WhatsApp or email, the coroner said.

THE Event

The coroner had a joke get placed on all parties involved when the investigation was first opened because the late mother had a child with her husband and was living.

The joke order extends to the mother’s target.

With her father and their two children, the mother shared a level.

The victim’s husband claimed that he had no idea if she had a mental illness.

Nevertheless, he noted that she had a” rapid explosion of attitude” after giving birth to their child, which was different from her ordinary self.

He thought that she had “mild postpartum problem” for two years after their father’s baby.

The girl continued to work in a hospital until 2019 before switching to part-time work in the same field in 2023. She appeared glad when she first started, said the man.

She told her husband in June 2023 that she felt bad about not helping her clients and that her boss was making a profit.

She had advised some customers to refrain from purchasing additional deals from her, but they did so anyway, which her father claimed.

In August 2023, the person noticed that his sister’s stress “was not more healthy”.

He advised her that since they had enough benefits, she may take a break from labor. She consented and raised their two children while rejecting a job offer from another company in October.

After their mother’s one-year check off at a facility on Aug 10, 2023, the girl told her husband that their child was under-developed, as she was thin.

He responded that despite being the same as a child, the mother continued to be concerned about their child.

Her father started to help with their sister’s feeds and noticed that his sister’s feeling improved.

But, a week later, he noticed that her feelings “deepened again”, and that she would lay on her sleep with their child and not do anything.

Her feeling improved once a week later according to his observations, and she was up to her” bright self”.

The victim’s mom said no suicidal thinking was expressed despite the fact that she had grown more angry after having her child.

There was nothing abnormal or strange about the woman in the months leading up to the deaths, despite the woman’s mother’s suspicions that she might be a little frustrated.

The woman’s parents claimed that before the deaths, there was no evidence of depressive intention or delirium. The lady had not discussed with him any significant problems that were bothering her.

THE DAY OF THE Murders

On the day of Nov 5, 2023, the woman’s partner left the house with their child. The girl claimed that their child had the flu and that she was not feeling well.

Around 10:30 a.m., the father and son left the apartment. The person texted his partner to let her know that their son had dropped his water drink onto the road.

She did not reply.

The girl dropped her child from their block of flats at about 12.35pm before following suit.

The mother and daughter were found dead at the foot of the wall at around 1pm the same day when a neighbor who was hanging clothing out called the police.

Around 1.40 p.m., the victim’s husband noticed the officers ring and was unable to find his wife or daughter at home.

He saw that his sister’s phone was also charging, and that her purse was in the home.

He ran out of the apartment and went to the ground ground, asking the police if there were two systems.

The officers showed him pictures, asking him to discover the older woman, and he confirmed it was his family.

The couple died of many injuries.

The girl had no record of severe symptoms, and had never been diagnosed with any medical problems.

Her family users claimed she never experienced suicidal thoughts and that they did not notice her depression right away before the event.

However, the prosecutor said there was” some information” that the girl had both experienced medical or psychological issues in the past, or was” subject to additional specific stresses”.

He noted that the daughter had been weighed 7 kg on autopsy, and that it was possible that she had not put on much weight in the three months or so since the last appointment.

It would appear that the mother, if she was feeling stress in some way, neither articulated nor explained it to her family, he said.

He expressed his sincere condolences to the mother and daughter’s family for their tragic loss.
