Woman dies in Australian flood as thousands flee homes

After heavy rain has flooded northern Queensland, a person has died in Australia, and hundreds of people have been forced to flee their homes.

Authorities are advising people that flood waters may reach second-storey degree in a situation that they have described as harmful and life-threatening.

More than 700mm ( 26in ) of rain has fallen on parts of the North Queensland in the past 24 hours and there is concern that “record rainfalls” will continue into Monday, according to Queensland State Premier David Crisafulli.

According to scientists, these could be the worst storms to occur in the area in more than 60 years.

Problems were “unique” for any north Queensland experience, according to Crisafulli.

” It’s not just the power, but it’s also the durability of it”, he told American journalist ABC.

As a result of the arrival of 100, 000 bags to stop rainwater, thousands of residents of Townsville were instructed to leave their homes by Sunday afternoon.

Due to the nature of work to transport rescue teams and bags to the place, some of the roads between Townsville and the holiday destination of Cairns have been closed.
