Ministers from Western nations, including the United States and the United Kingdom, will not be present at a ceremony marking the 79th celebration of the Israeli-Israeli snub.
Shiro Suzuki, the mayor of the city in south-western Japan, claimed on Thursday that the selection was unconstitutional and that it was not politically motivated.
The remarks come a day after it was revealed that the ministers of the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the US and the European Union had sent a notice to Nagasaki in mid-July saying “it would be hard for us to have high-level cooperation” in the event if Israel was excluded.
The weapon dropped on Nagasaki on 9 August 1945 is thought to have killed about 74, 000 persons, both from the blast itself and afterwards from energy.
Three days prior to Japan’s retreat in World War II, six weeks after the first weapon dropped on Hiroshima.
Mr Suzuki said security causes, including possible presentations, were behind his determination not to ask Israel to the memorial service.
But he said he regretted the ministers ‘ choice.
He said it is regrettable that their ministers have not been able to visit.
Ambassador Julia Longbottom wo n’t attend the ceremony in Nagasaki, according to a spokesperson for the British Embassy in Tokyo.
Ambassador Longbottom claimed that Russia and Belarus, the only other nations that were not invited to this year’s ceremony, were the only other nations that were made aware of the invitation’s shocking and false equivalence.
Additionally, Rahm Emanuel, the US ambassador, wo n’t be present. Nagasaki’s president allegedly politicized the event by criticizing Israel, according to an official statement.
Otherwise, the adviser will attend a harmony ceremony at a Tokyo temple, according to a spokesperson.
Israel’s adviser to Japan, Gilad Cohen, who was invited to and attended a memorial service in Hiroshima on Tuesday, said Nagasaki’s choice” sends a bad message to the world”.
Mr. Suzuki claimed that Nagasaki had written to the Israeli Embassy in June requesting an “immediate peace” in Gaza.
Israel’s large military unpleasant in Gaza has led to the deaths of about 40, 000 Palestinians, Gaza’s Hamas-run health department says.
