Move to ease recycling process in Bangkok
City Hall will nowadays kick off a pilot project to separate organic waste in three districts of the capital.
“This policy should have been implemented a long time ago because all kinds of household waste materials is mixed within rubbish bins. In the event that waste can be divided, it will ease the reuse and recycling, ” Bangkok chief excutive Chadchart Sittipunt stated yesterday.
“We must start from the source of the waste by encouraging people to separate organic waste materials from the rest. The BMA will have individual containers for wet trash and a procedure to manage it, ” he said.
The project will be piloted on arranged routes within Nong Khaem, Pathumwan and Phaya Thai districts, covering 1, 000 households.
Mr Chadchart said rubbish trucks will have a segment for wet waste which will be used since biofertiliser. Organic waste materials accounts for about 30-40% of the city’s waste materials each day.
“Everyone should indulge in reducing organic waste. We are starting with a small trial before growing the project to parts of the city. If successful, it will change the shape of waste selection not only in Bangkok but also the country later on, ” he said.
Town Hall has arranged guidelines for waste materials management at universities, communities, office buildings and some other places, in order to cultivate self-discipline plus an understanding of the associated with waste separation.
Chulalongkorn University’s Environmental Research Company also has worked with a lot more than 30 organisations through the private and municipal society sectors in order to draft an operational plan to manage the source of waste in the capital from 2023-2025.
Town Hall spends about 10 billion baht of its annual eighty billion baht upon refuse collection and disposal, but the amount can be reduced if everyone separates their particular waste, he mentioned.
The policy was also backed by Pada Vorakanon, Palang Pracharath Celebration MP for Bangkok. Ms Pada stated the party would certainly encourage people to take part in the three districts, especially Phaya Thai district where there are many offices, hospitals, households, stores and restaurants.
Citing the City Hall review, she said about 8, 000 tonnes of rubbish will be collected daily. When the organic waste will be separated, it can be reused into fertiliser or fuel, she said.
