Vote for new PM set for Friday

On Thursday, alliance leaders hope to reach an agreement on Srettha’s replacement candidates.

Following the court-ordered expulsion of Srettha Thavisin‘s departure on Wednesday, the House of Representatives may join on Friday to voting on a new prime minister.

House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha sent a notice to all Members on Wednesday night, calling on them to join at 10am on Friday, said Arpath Sukhanunth, secretary-general of the House.

Representatives from the government, opposition parties, and the caretaker government all agreed that a voting may be held as soon as possible, according to Wisuth Chainarun, the Pheu Thai Party’s general punch.

On Thursday, authorities whips will discuss potential candidates for prime minister. &nbsp,

” Politicians of coalition parties may have internal debate about the individuals within their parties,” said Mr. Wisuth.

Individuals must be chosen from the listings that political events submitted prior to the May 2023 general election. With Mr Srettha out of the image, the coalition-leading Pheu Thai has two options left: party chief Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Chaikasem Nitisiri.

Mr Chaikasem, 75, is said to be in bad health, while the future of Ms Paetongtarn, 37, depends on the decision of her home as she would face heavy political force, said a party supply who asked not to be named.

Another source said Mr Chaikasem, a former justice minister and attorney-general, may become nominated as Ms Paetongtarn had rejected the possibility of taking the work.

Sorawong Thienthong, Pheu Thai secretary-general, stated that he hoped a candidate for president would be nominated because the group has the most Members in the alliance.

” However, whether the Pheu Thai Party will have the ( prime ministerial ) slot will depend on discussions with coalition parties”, he said.

” If another coalition parties propose candidates to be the next prime minister, we will be pleased”, he added.

Additionally, because it was Pheu Thai’s flagship policy, Mr. Sorawong insisted that the electric wallet handout scheme would be implemented when the political picture was resolved.

A conference of the caretaker government on Thursday at 2 p.m. is also scheduled to discuss how to proceed in the near future. Caretaker excellent minister Phumtham Wechayachai will likewise preside over the meeting.

Following the Constitutional Court decision, Mr. Phumtham cut short an official journey to Kazakhstan and made a second trip to Bangkok on Wednesday night. The judges determined that Mr. Srettha’s appointment of a minister with a criminal history was an honest violation.

Anutin Charnvirakul, the head of the Bhumjaithai Party and widely regarded as the front-runner for the championship, stated on Wednesday that the alliance remained strong.

He stated to reporters that he was not considering his nomination for the presidency and that Pheu Thai, the coalition’s largest celebration, should be in charge of the formation of the government.

To be prime minister, a prospect will need the support of more than half of the current 493 politicians, or 247 votes. If they do n’t pass, the House must meet again later to retake the voting process, leaving a chance for other candidates to be nominated.

The 11-party partnership state has 314 seats in the House.

Another possible contenders for the championship include Energy Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, head of the Thai Raksa Chart group, and Gen Prawit Wongsuwon, mind of the military-aligned Palang Pracharath Party.
