Volunteers are being sought by Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Medicine for a new research that will evaluate the effectiveness of the Moderna bivalent Covid-19 vaccination in preventing new Omicron disease sub-variations and determine whether it should be suggested as an alternative booster shot in Thailand.

The Moderna bivalent is now being suggested in European countries as a seasonal booster shot due to its confirmed security against the BA, according to an online news by pathologist Yong Poovorawan. BA and 4. 5 Omicron sub-variations and older Covid – 19 influenza strains.

But, in Thailand, the BA. 4 and BA. Five sub-lineages had already been swapped out for the XBB post – version, in particular. According to the director of the Center of Excellence in Clinical Virology at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Medicine, the coronavirus strain 11.6 is currently thought to be one of its most prevalent genotypes.

That explains why, according to Dr. Yong, this study is required to determine how successful the Moderna bivalent is in preventing new Covid – 19 infection in the nation.

According to him, those who are interested in volunteering for this research project must be at least 18 years old, physically fit, and free from any history of having a major illness or an allergy to the Covid – 19 vaccinations.

In addition, potential volunteers may have received at least two Covid – 19 vaccine injections six months prior to participating in this new research, and if they are infected with the virus themselves, they must wait a minimum of three months between their most recent illness and the day they will get the Moderna bivalent for this study.

To determine their resistance levels against the main strains, including the XBB, all volunteers must consent to having their body drawn for screening. In roughly four weeks following the shot, he said.

In other reports, Dr. Opas Karnka-winpong, permanent repository for public health, reported that three weeks after a rise in new infection, the rate of new Covid – 19 infections now seems to have decreased.

According to him, the majority of the new Covid – 19 cases presently involve individuals who have not received the vaccine.

The Ministry of Public Health will keep a close eye on the Covid – 19 position until the next school break, the New Year event, and the end of the cold season, despite the decrease in fresh diseases.

There is currently little to worry about in terms of the disease position, he said.
