Volunteers clean up Bali’s beach from ‘worst’ monsoon-driven trash

TONS OF GARBAGE

Around 600 participants, including local occupants, hospitality employees, and tourists, braved a gloomy day to pick up the spare by side before filling hundreds of big sacks.

It was” the worst” plastic waste pollution to wash ashore in Bali, according to the environmental NGO Sungai Watch.

” We have never seen resins in the dust that are a metre thick. In only six weeks of recovery, we collected 25 tons, which is a document for us”, said Sungai Watch leader Gary Bencheghib.

Bencheghib said an inspection found most of the plastic waste came from places on neighbouring Java, Indonesia’s most-populated area.

Tatiana Komelova, a Russian tourists charity, said the look of the waste shocked her, and motivated her to decrease the use of plastic in her everyday living.

” I knew the problem existed, but I didn’t realize it was this poor”, she said.

” In my life, I use cheap products a bit, and then I try to reduce it as much as feasible.”
